Right man—right job
Mike Holmes—Canadian
builder, but more importantly he goes in when builders fail. Many
times in new homes things are built shoddily.
People don't want to know
how much you know as they want to know how much you care.
The best man for the job are not necessarily men of
leadership, but men of ability and caring enough to do the job and do
it rightly.
If you care enough:
1. You will do the job to the best ability you can 2. You will improve
every time you do the same job.
The job starts with the
foundation. If the foundation is crooked what you build on it will
not last,
it will always give you
trouble. What you build on it after the foundation is easily
changed, but the foundation is very difficult to change once the
building is built. The foundation needs to be built with
the right nails and screws
and lumber if it is to last. But even these, put together wrongly,
won't last.
The foundation has to have a
leader with a plan.
An alligator can be caught
with a hook and a heavy line, but even these lines have only so much
strength and can be broken. Holding on to that line and the gator
will bang the side of the boat jumping at you like crazy because he
doesn't want to be caught. Stay away from those teeth that are
trying to chomp down on you or they will put you in a world of hurt
miles away from 911. Likely you're dead or at least a broken bone or
three but still a shot to a quarter size opening in the back of the
head and the gator's dead. I wouldn't want to be those guys, because
its best when there are two in that small boat, but still there is a
right man or two for that job.
The TV has so many
interesting introductions to jobs, it didn't have in my youth. Dirty
jobs with mike Rowe, Alaskan bush people with the Brown family
living in the cold of Alaska way off the grid and loving it, or
perhaps you want to be a part of the Kilcher family homesteading in
the same state for several generations. Then there's the wild life
officer arresting people for taking fish illegally. He said “I
can't believe I get paid to do this” So much to chose from.
On the other hand it also
has commercials, many more, showing you a problem and in 30 seconds
or less giving you the solution.
We find still another Alaskan man who loves to be alone mainly with his dogs, taking care of them,
but also training them for the Iditarod not me, far too much cold. We find a woman living alone at a remote airport who fills the tanks of those planes in her area needing fuel, but also taking care of herself by hunting for her food on the surrounding tundra, not me, far too much snow.
